To the Santa Cruz Rain

Slippers
whisper
blinds on windows
punctuate
slippery sentences with consonants

Drugs
have:
piled
laundry high
stacked
unread books
written
nightmare stories
on grey floor
whispers
slippers in mornings

My nose
flows
yellow this winter and I
can’t
stop
it

Today:
is
aware
today’s body
feels
cast iron plate glass rain

Sometimes late night I
think
I
have
made
it
rain.

Poured
great grey oceans

Teared
to the earth.

Rain
rain today
and four weeks
on end
Santa Cruz.
